Naperville Neighborly Day Sunday brings back downtown Naperville block party
Sunday, August 9, will see the return of a downtown Naperville tradition — but with a new name.
The Naperville Neighborly Day Block Party will take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on west Chicago Avenue, between Washington and Main streets. The free-entry, family-friendly event, featuring live music, food, and fun, is being presented by DuPagePads.
The block party had previously been known as Old Naperville Day, and had been on hiatus for two years due to the construction on the Washington Street bridge. Proceeds will benefit local families and individuals in need of food or shelter.
DuPage health officials say initial Operation Dropbox a success
The DuPage County Health Department is reporting a successful first-ever Operation Dropbox for the county, collecting 1,760 individual items across 22 sites during the drive.
Those donations will help local veterans, providing hygiene products, cleaning supplies, and basic household goods.
The collections came with a bonus —teams at the county’s emergency preparedness drill on Aug. 4 used the supplies to practice unloading and distribution skills.
Knoch Knolls Nature Center closed Aug. 10 to Aug. 21
The Knoch Knolls Nature Center, 320 Knoch Knolls Road, will be closed from Monday, Aug. 10 through Friday, Aug. 21.
The closure is due to restorative maintenance on the permeable paver parking lot.
The restrooms at the center accessible from outside will stay open. Those wanting to use the DuPage River Trail can gain access near the DuPage River Sports Complex, 2807 S. Washington St.
Model plane pilots gather in Naperville for high-flying hobby
Members of the Prop Masters RC Aero Club and the community recently gathered at the Model Aircraft Flying Field in Naperville’s Springbrook Prairie for a “fun fly.”
The group held the event to spread awareness of the field and this high-flying hobby.
