COD Faculty Vote to Authorize Strike:
The College of DuPage Faculty Association voted yesterday to authorize a strike. The 304-member union can now legally go on strike if they choose to, after first giving a 10-day intent to strike notice to the college. The group has not yet done so. COD’s administration says they hope to reach a compromise, and avoid a strike. The faculty’s contract expired on August 14. If they do choose to strike, it would be the first in their history.
Renewable Energy Expansion:
At last night’s Naperville City Council meeting, the dais discussed expanding Naperville’s renewable energy program to allow residents to qualify for grants. The program began in 2004 as a way to encourage commercial customers to take actions like installing solar panels and other sustainable practices. Council voted 5-4 to make the changes to the program, with some dissenters, like Mayor Steve Chirico, saying the program doesn’t go far enough. Chirico said, for example, conserving energy is just as beneficial as using renewable sources, and that should be incentivized as well.

The space will include both a production facility and a tasting room. The owners hope to secure building permits to begin the process, for a target opening date of March 2020. This would be their second location.
