Downtown Naperville Alliance names Dawn Portner as new executive director
The Downtown Naperville Alliance Board of Directors has announced the appointment of a new executive director, Dawn Portner.
Portner will step into the role on September 14, succeeding current executive director Katie Wood, who plans to begin semi-retirement.

Friends nonprofit donates $500,000 to DuPage County Animal Services shelter
DuPage Animal Friends, the nonprofit, philanthropic arm of DuPage County Animal Services, is donating $500,000 to support the shelter’s ongoing operational needs.
The organization made the announcement at Tuesday’s meeting during a check presentation.
Naperville 203 board member not assigned to committees, adopt-a-schools
Naperville School District 203 board member Melissa Kelley Black has been omitted from a list of committee and adopt-a-school assignments for the year ahead, according to a recently published list.
Kelley Black and Charles Cush, the board president, each weighed in on the issue at the most recent board of education meeting.

Naperville seeks students for local government internships
The city of Naperville is offering two opportunities for students to get involved in local government this school year.
Applications are now open for both student representative positions with the city’s boards and commissions and Chief of Staff internships with Mayor Scott Wehrli’s office, both beginning in November and running through July 2027.

Greene Valley Scenic Overlook closed this weekend
The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County announced on social media that the Greene Valley Scenic Overlook will be closed Saturday, Aug. 15, and Sunday, Aug. 16, due to ongoing cleanup and repair efforts after this week’s storms.
The forest preserve district said there was damage to the overlook roadway as well as Hawk Trail. The district will post updates to let the public know when the overlook will reopen.
