Romeoville Ribfest Deal Official:

You may have heard Ribfest was roaming to Romeoville next year: well, now it’s official. The Romeoville Village Board passed a resolution securing their agreement with the Exchange Club of Naperville to move the longtime Naperville festival to Romeoville. As part of that agreement, residents of Romeoville will get first dibs on main stage entertainment tickets, with the chance to buy them 72 hours prior to the general public and at a discounted rate. Romeoville residents will also not be charged a general admission fee on the day of the fireworks show. The fest will still be four days long, and will be run by the Exchange Club, though the Village of Romeoville will be handling security and traffic control.

Mall of India Business District:

At Tuesday’s Naperville City Council meeting, the group discussed the creation of a business district for the Mall of India development on Route 59. The special district would impose a one percent tax on purchases at stores in the mall, with that money going back to the developer as an incentive for improvements made to the site. Council voted 7-2 in favor of the resolution, which doesn’t officially create the district, but does state the city will consider it in the future.

Shoppes On Washington Passed:

Also at that meeting, the dais approved several ordinances requested by Tartan Realty Group concerning their “Shoppes on Washington” development. They hope to convert the property located at the intersection of Washington Street and Sycamore Drive to multi-tenant retail buildings and a coffee shop with a drive-thru. Several residents expressed concern that there is already too much traffic in the area – with schools, churches, and other businesses. Council asked city staff to meet with neighbors to discuss traffic concerns and solutions in the area.

Vaping Forum:

The growing problem of e-cigarette use by teens prompted a forum at the Alive Center to inform community members about the harms that come from vaping. The “Let’s Talk Series: True Effects of Vaping” event was a collaborative effort between 360 Youth Services and S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Parent Group in District 203. An expert from 360 Youth Services discussed how vaping has become popular among young teens and adults. The hour and a half forum also discussed health risks associated with smoking e-cigarettes. For the full story tune in later this week to Naperville News 17.
