The 2018 Cavalcade Tour of Homes is here, with 18 different custom-built homes open to tour. Six of which are here in Naperville.

“I think one of the great things for the general public is the decorated homes, the decoration ideas and to see how houses live and to see modern, up-to-date designs and how we as builders are evolving day-to-day living questions,” said Court Airhart, chairman of the NIHBA Cavalcade Tour of Homes Committee.

This year the tour actually features a Naperville-original home plan from Naperville-native homebuilders.

“This is our Hemingway model, drawn by my mother and father in about 1994. It was the first home that we built, the Hemingway plan,” said Christian Zenger, President of Autumn Homes. “We probably have about 75 of this plan in Naperville alone.”

And beyond Naperville, there’s some variety in the tour, with homes from as small as 650 square feet to over 8,000.

“We have homes with first-floor master bedrooms. We have walk-to-downtown houses and I think that makes it a lot of fun and it gives our custom builders who are part of the NIHBA a real opportunity to meet the market where they are and where the property they have is,” said Airhart.

The tour is also on an app called Parade Craze, where you can get directions to all of the featured homes and buy tickets that are good for the weekends of September 7 and September 14.

40 percent of cavalcade ticket sales go to local charities supporting veterans.
