A 68-year-old man died after crashing his bicycle Sunday on the Naperville Sprint Triathlon route.

Linda LaCloche, Communications Manager for the City of Naperville, says the man was wearing a helmet when he crashed.

The Naperville Fire Department intubated the man in the field and transported him to Edward Hospital in a total of 19 minutes.

LaCloche confirms the man succumbed to his injuries and died Sunday, August 4.

This year marked the 12th annual triathlon at Centennial Beach.

Roughly 1,850 people were registered for Sunday’s event.

LaCloche says the route was not impacted by the accident.
