CityGate North is a sports, entertainment and expo facility planned by Calamos Real Estate for the north side of town next to the existing CityGate Centre on Ferry Road off of Route 59 and I-88.

The 245,000 square foot facility will boast seating for 4,500 as well as two regulation-size ice rinks – sure to bring in a new slew of business to that side of town.

“The reason that they decided to do two rinks instead of one is because this enables them to host tournaments for hockey,” said Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico. “This will draw from not just outside of the Chicago region but also outside of the state.”

Along with the space comes versatility – and the chance to bring in new talent.

“They can cover that floor, the ice, with a gym floor or a basketball court floor for concerts, for basketball, for competitions, whether it be cheerleading or whatever,” said Chirico. “It’s just going to be a great venue for hosting a real diverse base of activities.”

This will be the largest facility of its kind in DuPage County.

Construction is expected to begin in the spring or early summer, with hopes of completion in fall of next year.
