Naperville is getting the first taste of a new ice cream shop and cafe in Illinois.
Ice cream flavors from desserts around the world
Dumont Creamery & Cafe opened its Block 59 location on Friday, August 7, offering up coffee, pastries, boba and ice cream with a global mix of flavors.
“The strength of Dumont is gathering flavors from around the world, the popular desserts from around the world, and then we make ice creams out of those,” said Vamsi Manne, co-owner of the Dumont Illinois and Wisconsin franchise. “So we have mint basil sorbet from Italy, Biscoff from Belgium, Hokey Pokey from New Zealand.”
With nearly 20 locations across the U.S., its Naperville store at 448 S Rte 59, Suite 104 is its first in Illinois.
“Naperville was always on our list. It’s one of our favorite cities in [the] U.S.,” Manne said. “They want new businesses from around the globe, and we thought that was a great place to be.”
‘Dumont’ name symbolizes purity of ingredients
The store’s name comes from the French term “du mont,” meaning “from the mountain.”
“We took that name because it’s as pure as it gets. ‘From the mountains’ is purity,” Manne said. “When the founders originally created the brand, they traveled a lot across the globe to pick up the true local desserts and picked up the real ingredients that go into those desserts, and used those ingredients to make their ice creams.”
Icons of astronauts signify how the store’s drinks and desserts will send you “to the moon.” The store has a local grounding too, with one wall dedicated to the history of Naperville landmarks.
Grand opening August 21
Though the shop is already welcoming customers, Dumont will host a grand opening celebration with giveaways and games on August 21. A buy-one-get-one-free ice cream deal will run from Aug. 21 to 24.
Dumont will open its next Illinois store in Aurora next March. Manne said the franchise is planning for more Illinois locations and expects to have 46 stores open by next August.
“The ice cream flavors here are unlike anything that you’ve previously tasted,” Manne said. “Do come in and sample the ice creams.”
