Naper Settlement takes a closer look at Naperville’s farming history in their newest exhibit “Community Roots: Agriculture in Naperville.”
“If you came here even 50 years ago you would have seen just miles of farmland, and now those miles of farmland have been transformed into housing subdivisions, business parks, and we wanted to explore the connections between that rich agricultural history we have in Naperville and today’s city,” said Curator of Exhibits and Interpretation, Jennifer Bridge.
With artifacts from many of Naperville’s farming families, the exhibit highlights how agriculture helped shape Naperville’s landscape and economy.
There are also several wall displays detailing Naperville and DuPage County’s history in the dairy industry.
“More and more, DuPage County in particular became focused on dairy farming, producing milk to be turned into other products like cheese and butter,” said Bridge. “And in fact for a while DuPage County was one of the largest dairy producing counties in the State of Illinois.”
Visitors can also view a slide show of even more historical pictures.
This exhibit is free with museum admission and will be open until October.
