The Fry Family YMCA in Naperville announced in a news release Wednesday that Ray McGury has been chosen as its new executive director.

Background in leadership

McGury brings a background in leadership, having served as the executive director of the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association for three years and the executive director of the Naperville Park District for more than 13 years. Before that, he was chief of police for the Village of Bolingbrook.

In this new role, he’ll be managing the staff, programs, services, and facilities at the Fry Family YMCA, located at 2120 95th St. He’ll also oversee the YMCA Safe ‘n Sound before and after school care programs, as well as the full-day School Days Out programs held when school isn’t in session, spanning locations at 18 schools in Aurora and Naperville.

“Genuine passion for service”

YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago District Executive Director Ron Anderson said in the news release that he was excited to bring McGury on board.

“When we began our search for a new Executive Director, we wanted to find someone who believes in the Y’s mission to ‘strengthen community by connecting all people to their purpose, potential, and each other,'” said Anderson. “Ray brings extensive leadership experience, deep ties to Naperville and the western suburbs, and a genuine passion for service.”

McGury expressed his own excitement with the appointment.

“I look forward to being a part of the team and finding new ways to ensure that the Y remains a welcoming place where people of all ages can learn, grow, play and stay active,” said McGury.

McGury’s first day in the role will be Monday, Aug. 24.
