Local Officials Do Good in DuPage

Local elected officials did some packing to make an impact, as part of a campaign that’s all about doing good.

“Today we’re kicking off the holiday season at Loaves & Fishes as part of the Giving DuPage Do Good DuPage Initiative Chairman Cronin and Mayor Chirico have teamed up and brought a whole group of leaders from DuPage County to help us help those in need for the holidays,” said Nancy Wiersum, vice president of advancement for Loaves & Fishes.

They worked alongside hundreds of volunteers who came out to the food pantry to help box up holiday meals for those in need.

“Loaves & Fishes has been working towards one of the greatest quests of ending hunger in DuPage County, and while that’s their goal it seems that the need is actually growing, not shrinking. So having people come here to volunteer to help end that hunger is a great example of the types of volunteers we have here in Naperville and the surrounding communities,” said Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico.

More than 20 items were packed into each box, with all the fixings for a Thanksgiving dinner. It was a great example of the type of volunteerism encouraged by the Do Good DuPage campaign, an effort to get 150,000 DuPage County residents to make a difference in the community in a positive way.

“This is the time of the year when you really want to give. You really want to give of yourself, and you really want to volunteer, and you want to be part of a charitable effort”

A day of help, to provide others with a tastier day of thanks.
