Once word got out that Moser Tower would need up to $3.8 million in repairs, several different engineers approached the city and offered potential solutions to both save the tower and save money.
Now, a second round of investigation is ongoing.
New non-destructive and destructive tests like core-samples are being done, and drones were used to conduct a visual survey of the structure.
“We’ve now got new information, lets refine the opinion on what it will cost to do the repairs and come back and review it with the commission,” said Riverwalk Commission Chairman Geoff Roehll.
All of the data gathered will be put together in a report coming next summer.
In the meantime, the 17-year-old tower is safe and will continue operating as normal.
Also discussed at the meeting was the smart park.
The initial cost estimate for the park of $412,000 has risen – meaning more private donations will need to be secured before action on the project can continue.
Once full funding for the park is secured, a motion to advance funds for the project will be brought before city council.
The mayor hopes to break ground on the smart park in spring 2018.
