In 2011, a Naperville educator received the highest honor among Illinois teachers.

Lincoln Jr. High school teacher Josh Stumpenhorst was named “Teacher of the Year” by the Illinois State Board of Education.

The North Central College graduate fell in love with Lincoln Jr. High after student teaching and has been teaching language arts and social sciences there full time since 2003.

Stumpenhorst was honored in large part because of his creative use of technology in the classroom.  He was also awarded with a lifetime tuition waiver to all state universities.

To this day, Stumpenhorst continues to wear many other hats, including athletic director, track and basketball coach, advisor to the computer lab and grade team leader.  In his spare time, he also reaches others through his blog “Stump the Teacher.”
