At the most recent 203 Board of Education meeting, administrators presented the final phase of their high school science curriculum update.
Under the proposed changes, a new earth science course would replace the current geology and weather and environment courses.
“The focus of the new earth science course would be on the structure and development of the earth over time,” said Director of Curriculum and Instruction for District 203 Jennifer Donatelli. “It will be designed as a laboratory based and field driven course for students with interests that may lead to career possibilities in fields such as meteorology, geology and environmental studies.”
Staff is also recommending that anatomy and physiology become a yearlong course, opposed to its current one semester format.
The board is expected to vote on these changes at their next meeting on September 18.
The District 203 Board of Education is one of only 20 in Illinois to receive School Board Governance Recognition from the Illinois Association of School Boards this year.
