The Rotary Club of Naperville wants to bring the sound of music to town.
They’ve donated over $23,000 to the century walk for what they hope will become the Rotary Harmony Park, a public space with sculpture-like instruments accessible for anyone to play and interact with.
“We’re pretty optimistic about the timeline, I’d love to get something started and installed by summer,” said President of the Rotary Club of Naperville John Norman. “But really what we see is it promoting harmony in the community. It’s really kind of takes on the whole essence of the name Harmony Park.”
Norman hopes that the Harmony Park would be located close to the Naperville Riverwalk and would include four to six percussion instruments.
The next step will be for the rotary to meet with the Riverwalk Commission, Naperville Park District, and Naperville City Council.
The funds raised so far were from the Rotary Club of Naperville’s Festiville this past fall.
The rotary also donated $18,000 to Reclaim 13, an organization devoted to ending human trafficking in the area, and another $18,000 to three other local charities.
