Technology in a multigenerational workforce was the topic at the most recent Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon.
Dr. Felix Davis of the College of Dupage spoke to area business leaders about how to stay productive when different aged employees may not have the same technological skills.
He demonstrated this by asking questions through a timed online polling system he uses with students, with many in the audience unable to answer through their phones in time.
According to Davis, one disconnect when companies hire today is that job seekers’ credentials don’t always match their skill sets as they have in the past. For example, Davis SAID with kids learning technology younger all the time, you don’t necessarily have to have an IT degree to be able to code.
“Many companies are hiring, but they don’t have the right skill sets,” said Davis. “So the question becomes “Are your on-boarding processes in align with this? Can a 15-minute interview really reveal to me that the person has a certain level of skill sets that I’m looking for, especially in a technical environment?”
Davis said changing technology is even allowing for video resumes to better showcase potential employees’ skills.
