Something may finally fill the vacant Dominick’s building on Route 59.

When Dominick’s shuttered in 2013, Albertsons, the parent company of Jewel-Osco, picked up the lease and left the building vacant, preventing a competing grocer from moving in.

But that lease expired late last year, and Albertsons did not renew. Though nothing is set in stone yet, there have been inquiries from fitness centers, boutique grocers, and more.

“We’re excited for the possibilities. The main thing is that we can now lease it, it’ll be a great for the city, great for the business district, and it’s a sigh of relief we don’t have to wait another five years,” said Mayor of Naperville Steve Chirico.

Albertsons still has the lease on the old Dominick’s building on North Aurora Road.
