Welcome in to the 2A state final soccer game at Hoffman Estates. The defending state champions Crystal Lake South face off against the 18-1-2 benet academy redwings for the title.

First Half

Just a minute in to this game and Benet is all ready looking to get something going. Hans Haenicke dribbles past defenders and whips in a cross that finds the head of Chris Mankowski who puts an attempt right off the post… game stays scoreless.

Still in the first half, off a trent McVey corner, the ball comes outside of the box to Sam Hepburn who’s shot beats out Crystal Lake Souths goalie to open up scoring. Redwings on the board, 1-nil.

Second Half

Benet Academy’s defense has only allowed 4 goals this season.. and Vito Staniskis keeps that number as he tracks an attempt and pushes it right over the cross bar to keep the wings in the lead in the second half.

26 minutes left in the game and BA looks to add on to their lead. Sam Hepburn finds Trent McVey at the back post who taps in benet’s 2nd goal but it is called offsides and the score stays one nil.

That is until 8 minutes left in the game. McVey slides the ball through to Hans Haenicke who does the rest. He finds the bottom right corner of the goal to double Benet’s lead and seal their 2-0 victory. The Redwings win the 2A state championship game for the first time since 2001.
