We get Waubonsie Valley girls basketball in a DVC match. The Warriors are looking for their first conference victory. The Metea Valley Mustangs are coming in with a clean 1-0 record.
First Quarter
Starting off the game and getting the Mustangs on the board is MVs Khaliah Reid with a nice 3 pointer. Early 3-2 lead for the visitors
That wouldn’t last long… the Warriors jump on top thanks to Lauren McKnight putting up her own long range shot. WV up by 4 with 4:31 left in the 1st quarter.
The early seesaw action continues… Getting the pass in the corner, Metea’s Nyla Hart buries the pocket 3, giving the Mustangs a 1 point lead with 2:43 to go in the 1st.
Bringing the ball up, Waubonsie’s Hannah Laub finds herself along on the wing… that spells trouble. Game all knotted at 11 exiting the first quarter.
Second Quarter
Moving to the second, Waubonsie looks stuck in the corner, but Grace Abrams comes to the rescue – her triple once again resets the game at 16 a piece.
This is a big of a three point barrage isn’t it… Quick thinking and step back from senior Lauren Mcknight gives her space and time to drill the three. Waubonsie up 21-20 with 4 to go in the half.
Third Quarter
Skipping past intermission, Metea on the attack with Jada Samuels, who shoots the 3 pointer, tying the game at 29-29 with 7 left in the third
A quick counter attack is on tap for Waubonsie… Laub finds a cutting Mcknight who puts in the layup giving the Warriors a 5 point lead.
Getting the ball at the top of the arc, MVs Amelia Szczesny takes on driblle and fires away… bringing Metea within 4.
Looking to protect the lead, Waubonsie’s Amari Banks launches in another 3 pointer. 43-38 WV 2:49 3rd.
Extending the Warriors lead to 8 is McKnight. She picks the ball up at the top of the arc and bangs home another 3 pointer.
Fourth Quarter
Taking the ball to the baseline, Laub dishes off to Abrams for the easy lay in. 54-49 WV 4:57 left in the 4th.
Trying to tighten the game up, Samuels pulls up and drills in the 3 pointer, bringing Metea back to within 2 with 3:40 left in the 4th.
Carrying the ball into the green paint is MVs Katy Flanders who ties the game at 54 with 2:14 left in the 4th.
Ending the game with 2 free throws is WVs Lauren Threat with just under 20 seconds left, And the anti-climatic ending gives Waubonsie Valley girls basketball their first DVC victory over Metea with a score of 57-54.
