We head to North Central college for the Girls Indoor DVC meet… so lace up your spikes as Neuqua, Waubonsie, Metea, Naperville North, Central, and DVC new-comers DeKalb get ready to compete. Let’s hit the field first.
DeKalb’s Maddie Overton making a statement for the first time at this meet. In shot put she tosses 35 feet, three and a quarter inches to take the top spot.
Naperville North’s Maeve Conneely at high jump gets a solid five footer for third place. She would also tie for third on pole vault with 7 foot 6.
Top high jumper though would be Tolu Akinbo from Neuqua, she gracefully falls over the bar at 5 feet to secure the wildcats their first set of points.
You better recognize this wildcat long jumper… she was the one who grabbed first down at state last year as a freshman… she’s after that goal again, leaping a great 19 feet at this meet for first place. She also grabs first in triple jump… Neuqua off to a good start.
Now we hit the oval with the first race of the night. The 4 by 800 meters… and not to surprise you, but Naperville North, the winners of last years DVC meet, just dominate this race, finishing in 9 minutes and 43 seconds. DeKalb in second more than 20 seconds later.
From a longer race… to a much shorter. Another North star, Halle Bieber coming into this one after getting first and second in hurdles at state last year. She claims the top spot in 8.36 seconds.
Neuqua looking to dethrone North as DVC champs and MiKenna Robinson helping that cause in the 800 meter… just crushing the competition, finishing in 2:17, North’s Audrey Medrys finishes in second.
Cut that distance in half… 400 meters and first down the stretch is Central’s Allison Comer. She crosses first in 1 minute 3 seconds with DeKalb one second behind her.
Another short race, 200 meters, North’s Bieber just edging out the competition in this one in 25.63 seconds. Robinson grabs third with Ammenhauser behind her and Waubonsie’s Itzel Garcia in 5th. Garcia also grabbing 2nd in the 55 dash.
Last race of the night… 4 by 400 relay. At the final handoff, Central leads with DeKalb and North right behind them… the Barbs would pull out in front on that last lap, taking first with central in second north in third and neuqua in fourth but the dominate field performances helped Neuqua edge out the competition, taking home the DVC plaque with 118 points, North in second 4.5 points behind them.
