On a beautiful day, Mr. Hawk pays a visit to the new look Springbrook Golf Course after a year of renovations. There is also a DVC matchup as Metea Valley takes on Waubonsie Valley girls golf as both teams begin their conference slate. This highlight is sponsored by BMO.
The Warriors are happy to have their home course back as Kelly Cong starts things off on the first hole in the grass, but her shot has enough juice and goes to the green. Cong starts her round even with a par.
Mustangs start strong on hole one
Mustangs go to work with a McKenna Wigfield fairway shot that lands not too far from the pin. Wigfield finishes the first hole with a birdie to start one under. She and older sister Madison will be among the team leaders for the black and gold this fall.
Her partner Anlsey Ellis also chips her ball close to the pin, paring it in from there. She goes on to golf a 48.
On hole four, Pranvi Kakkar from Metea gets a nice tee shot that makes it on to the green, resulting in her paring the hole for the Mustangs.
Warriors also make some noise on hole four with a par from Mina Shyam. She walks away with Waubonsie’s second-best score of the match with a 48.
Back to Mckenna Wigfield, who tees off on hole seven and gets another favor with her ball just landing on the green. Wigfield ends her round with a 40, second best on the team.
Kakkar with a strong performance
Staying on 7, and here’s Kakkar again with another solid tee shot that settles close to the pin on the par three. Kakkar is not done yet because, on her next putt attempt, she sinks a birdie. Kakkar leads the Mustangs with a round of 39.
Warriors start chipping in late
The Warriors continue striding on hole nine with a Hannah Lee chip that gets on the green. Lee scores a 48, third best for the green and gold.
The leader for Waubonsie Valley is senior sensation Kelly Cong who finishes her outing with a 37 to lead all golfers on the afternoon. However, it’s Metea Valley walking away with an eight-stroke over Waubonsie Valley to start DVC play with a win.
