The first East Aurora sectional semi final of the day finds Metea Valley taking on Naperville North. The Huskies have lost two straight to the Mustangs dating back to last season, however Naperville North is undefeated against Metea in post season matchups.
First Half
About five minutes into the game, Maddie Schlecht makes a nice play to get a pass ahead to Hannah Martin and good things happen when she gets the ball. Martin slides her 14th goal of the season into the net to put North up 1-0 early in the game.
Metea fell behind early in the regional final to Lockport as well so this is not unchartered territory, goalie Nikki Coryell does a good job fighting for the ball against Maddie Thompson to get the save and keep the deficit at 1.
Later in the first half, Paige Buranosky makes a move and let’s loose a shot, nice play by Huskie goalie Amanda Johnson to stay with the ball on the bounce and knock it away.
Corner kick for North late in the half, Tompkins gets a foot on it and Emily Dulik with a point blank chance but the ball sails just high over the crossbar. 1-0 North with the lead at halftime.
Second Half
2nd half and Paige Buranosky with a long free kick, it’s a great shot as it carries all the way to the net, Johnson is forced to slap the ball away and over the net to keep MV off the board.
Metea relentless in the 2nd half, another great chance on goal, but Amanda Johnson lays out and makes the diving save with under ten minutes to play.
Less than three minutes remaining in the game, Lauren Wardell with a good look, but Johnson again is equal to it, knocking the ball away and hanging on for the shutout. The Huskies win it 1-0 over Metea Valley to advance to the sectional final for a 5th consecutive season. DVC rival Waubonsie Valley awaits in the title game.
