Waubonsie Valley traveling to Naperville North to open up conference action. The Warriors sit 2-1 on the year while Naperville North is still in search of their first win.

First Quarter

Ten minutes left in the first quarter and Waubonsie all ready knocking on the door. Ethan Nelson shuttling the ball over to Antonio Torres who scores easily to get WV on the board early, 7-0.

North looking to respond and it doesn’t take them long. On the Ensuing kick off Matt Maschmeier essentially goes the entire length of the field, 98 yards for the return to knot the game up at 7s early on.

If you haven’t realized it yet, this game is going to be good. 8 minutes left in the first, Nelson finds Sean Clinton downfield for a beautiful catch in stride that once again puts WV in the lead, 13-7 after a missed PAT.

Literally 13 seconds later, Maschmeier is at it again. Anthony Gabrione gets him the ball and he runs 80 yards for his second touchdown and north’s second TD of the night, Huskies now in the lead 14-13.

Third Quarter

We jump to the third quarter where North remains in the lead, 17-16. Until Nelson finds Clinton again. He gets his second TD of the night and suddenly we have a competition between Clinton and Maschmeier. 22-17 after a block PAT WV leads.

Fourth Quarter

Fourth quarter, WV still in control, and if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Nelson connects with Clinton for his third touchdown of the night… but against WV misses the extra point. Up 28-17 with 7 and a half to play.

Under four minutes to play and Maschmeier isn’t taking any breaks. He intercepts Nelson’s pass at that 5 to run allll the way downfield and score his third TD of the night. It’s going to take some math to add up all his yardage. He would also get the 2 point conversion. North trails 28-25 after all that excitement.

Under a minute to play and the chaos isn’t over yet. North at the doorstep again and they find pay dirt as Gabrione tosses one to Stephan Williams. It’ll be Norths turn to miss the extra point but they still lead 31-28.

Now… Waubonsie Valley, with 6 seconds on the clock, draws up this trick play… watch is carefully. Ball ends up getting tossed to a waiting Miles Petaway to set the Warriors up inside the 10 with the game winning field goal.

Tonight wasn’t Waubonsie’s Special Teams night as they would miss the game winning field field goal and North takes their first win of the season, in a thrilling fashion, 31-28.
