Waubonsie Valley and Plainfield North facing off in the sectional semifinal game at Bolingbrook high school. Waubonsie is hoping to advance to their first sectional final game since 2006. The tigers though, did defeat WV in three sets early this year.
First Set
Plainfield North holding the lead in the first set. Ariel Amaya gets set up from Emma Callow and she gets the kill to extend the tigers lead, 16-8.
Little later on and Plainfield North on a roll in a longer rally. WV’s Melissa Walden goes for the attack but Ali Jansen and Greta Ketelhut throw up the block helping the tigers win the first set 25-12.
Second Set
Second set and the warriors in the lead by 2, make that three after Jessica Molina sets up Trinity Evans for the kill that bounces off of Ella Wrobel. WV extends their lead 7-4.
Waubonsie still in the lead a few points later after Jessica Molina has the magic touch for a service ace, 15-10 warriors.
Plainfield North trying to make the comeback, trailing by 4 late in the second set. Emma Callow sets up Ella Wrobel for the slam, tigers now trailing by 3.
But the warriors push this match to a third set as Melissa Walden sets up Elenzie France who lands the cross court kill. Waubonsie Valley takes the second set 25-20.
Third Set
Final set and the warriors up by a slim margin. It’s a quick kill from WV as Molina sets up Melissa Walden for the kill. Warriors up 17-15.
But the tigers aren’t going away either. Callow sets up Wrobel for another one of her monster kills on the night, Tigers again trailing by 1.
It’s a back and fourth battle in to the 20s, as Elenzie France events the game up at 23s with this kill.
Warriors in the lead, 24-23, and they are forced to send the free ball over, Callow sets up Wrobel, again, to even the game up at 24s.
Next point and the warriors still fighting. Molina sets up Walden who hits it in to the block for the warrior point, they are once more in the lead 25-24.
Match point for the warriors, Gabi Groll sends the serve over and the tigers are unable to return the serve for the warriors to take the sectional semis in a nail biting third set. WV advances to play Benet Academy in the finals.
