When it comes to a hospital, we often think about the staff that takes care of the patients, particularly doctors and nurses. But at Edward-Elmhurst Health, hundreds of volunteers also contribute to the patient experience. In this segment of “Transforming Your Healthcare Experience,” we find out more about the volunteer services program.
About Edward-Elmhurst Health Volunteer Services
Roughly 700 people volunteer in dozens of departments and contribute thousands of service hours each year. Volunteers range in age from teenagers to elderly. He or she may be the first person a patient or guest meets when entering the hospital or the last person seen upon being discharged or play some role in between such as visiting or escorting patients. Whatever the role, each and every volunteer serves as a critical contribute to the care experience.
Edward-Elmhurst is regularly accepting applications for additional volunteers. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people while feeling good about giving back to the community. The hospital provides orientation and job skills training for all of their volunteers.
