Nearly 150 kids ages 3 to 12 powered their pedals at Wolf’s Crossing Community Park on Saturday, August 8, for the 13th annual Junior Tour de Naperville, hosted by the Naperville Park District.
“The Junior Tour de Naperville is an event for kids from ages 3 to 12. We have three different races for them. It’s about a little over a mile of a race. And it’s. It’s a pedal race. So bikes. And you guys can go around as many times as you want. There’s no winner. There’s no loser. It’s just a fun way to get the kids out and enjoy outdoors,” said Naperville Park District intern Nicole Guzman.
Kids use pedal power to showcase their skills
Year after year, hundreds of Naperville area riders and their families enjoy taking their turn around the Wolf’s Crossing course on their bikes, tricycles, and big wheels, stopping to refuel along the way.
“I like turning. I like riding straight. I also like pedaling, and fast,” said Tour de Naperville rider Norah Lampe.
“It was so fun because I was biking so much,” said Tour de Naperville rider Moosha Sheikh.
“I like the first corner where I can cut around the corner,” said Tour de Naperville rider Henry Lampe. “It was really fun.”
A group effort keeps the fun rolling
Guzman credits the combined efforts of the Park District and other volunteers to help keep this popular annual event on track and running smoothly.
“This year we have about 140-150 kids participating. This event has been so successful for so many years because of the team they have here at Naperville Park District. There’s good communication. Everyone knows how to keep it going and to continue to make sure everything runs smoothly. And we also have notes and everything for the following year to make it even better for you guys to have a better experience,” said Guzman.
