$10 All Access to Last Fling:
For $10 this year, you can have full access to all areas of the Last Fling. In past years, entrance to the Naperville Jaycees sponsored event was free, but event-goers had to pay $5 for admittance to the Jackson Avenue Block Party Stage, $5 for Family Fun Land in Naper Settlement, and then an extra fee to see the Rotary Hill Main Stage performances. This year all those are included with the set cost, while admission to the carnival will be free. There’s also a $30 four-day pass available for those 13 and older. And once you’re in, if you’re 21 and up, you’ll have another new option for drinks, as premixed cocktails have been approved for sale. The Last Fling takes place from August 30 through September 2.
Greene Farm Barn 5K Fundraiser:
A 5K run is being held to raise funds for the renovation of the Greene Farm Barn. The Rooted Acoustic Barn Raising 5K is set for August 25, featuring a 5K run, along with a 1 mile walk/run starting at Main Street at Seven Bridges in Woodridge and ending at the historic barn. The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County owns the 175-year-old barn, and has appointed an ad hoc committee to explore options for its use. This event will aid in that purpose, while also helping to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the village of Woodridge, and their park district’s 50th anniversary. A $1,500 grant from the village helped make the 5K possible.
Blood Donations Needed:
Local blood center Vitalant is facing an emergency need for blood, platelets and plasma. Donations have been in short supply with folks out enjoying their summers and longtime donors beginning to age out. Critical needs include group O positive and negative, as well as other negative blood groups. To find out how and where to donate, check out Vitalant’s website.
