Big Budget Ask for 2020 Election

DuPage County Clerk Jean Kaczmarek is asking for more than double the budget for her election division in 2020. Due to a predicted historic voter turnout, the County Clerk asked for a $7.84 million budget for fiscal 2020, compared to this year’s $3.63 million. The extra funds are in part for updating election equipment, hiring more judges, and increasing their pay. This is the first budget request since the election commission and county clerk’s office merged earlier this year. County board members have until November 30 to approve a budget.

First Day at District 204

School is officially in session for Indian Prairie School District 204. Parents dropped off their kids at May Watts Elementary and stayed for the school’s first outdoor assembly. After reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, Principal Brian LeCrone welcomed back students from their summer vacation. And this year hot classrooms are a thing of the past because now all of 204’s elementary schools are air-conditioned. Good luck to all of the new and returning students this year!

Eagle Scout Project

Ryan Thiele’s Eagle Scout Project might best be described as “fishy.” He led his Boy Scout Troop 510 through the building of four fish cribs for the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County. These will be placed on DuPage County lakes over the winter, and will help provide a safe environment for young fish, helping to support our local ecosystem.
