Candidate Forum
Development in Naperville was the topic of the night at yesterday’s South Homeowners of Wheatland’s city council and mayoral candidate forum. The candidates discussed key issues residents of south Naperville were particularly interested in, such as the Polo Club project and tariffs in neighboring Aurora, which could affect School District 204. All 11 council candidates were in attendance along with Mayor Steve Chirico. Challenger Rocky Caylor was absent due to a family emergency.
95.9 The River Radiothon
95.9 The River is honoring the victims of last week’s mass shooting in Aurora by hosting a radiothon all-day today at Luigi’s Pizza and Fun Center. The station is inviting the public to bring monetary donations to assist families and first responders. Tune in to hear public officials from Aurora, live music, and a moment of silence to honor the victims.
Benet Girls Take Sectional
Benet Academy ended Montini Catholic’s 14-year sectional championship streak last night at Hinsdale South. The Redwings avenged last year’s sectional loss in dominant fashion by defeating the Broncos 61-33. This is Benet’s fourth sectional plaque in five seasons. The Redwings will advance to the supersectional and face Oswego on Monday in hopes of getting back to state for the first time since winning back-to-back titles in 2015 and 2016.
Academy Awards Watch
And for those of you tuning in to the Academy Awards on Sunday night, keep an eye out for 2003 Waubonsie Valley graduate Andrew Chesworth. His seven-minute flick “One Small Step” is nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film. The awards show airs on ABC at 7 p.m.
