Charleston Row II
Naperville City Council approved a new housing development. Charleston Row II is an eight-townhome project coming to the corner of Aurora Avenue and Main Street. The dais voted unanimously to approve the development, which is done in the same style as the original Charleston Row. That six-unit building is located just a block west along Aurora. At a Planning and Zoning meeting in September, residents voiced support for the project, saying it is an aesthetic improvement over the houses currently occupying the land.
Donation for DCM:
The DuPage Children’s Museum received a $25,000 donation from Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin Robbins’ not-for-profit, the Joy in Childhood Foundation. The money will go toward the Family Night Out Project, which provides evenings of fun at the museum for families and their children with illnesses, special needs, or disabilities. Thanks to donations like these, the Family Night Out Project has expanded from being held only a few times a year to once every month.
Alive @ Fry:
The Alive Center is partnering with the Fry Family YMCA to start up Alive @ Fry. The new program at the Y will provide free teen drop-in hours for 6th to 12th graders, every Wednesday and Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. It provides a chance for teens to gather in a safe, supervised place to learn and socialize, along with free mentoring, classes and a variety of workshops, many Teen-Led, Teen Driven™. The partnership was announced at the Alive Center’s Fat Tuesday FUNdraiser held at Hotel Arista on March 5. Pre-registration for the program is available through the Alive Center website.
Lock It or Lose It:
As part of this month’s A Safer Naper focus on burglary prevention, the Naperville Police Department is reminding residents to keep valuables in their vehicles protected, making sure to Lock It or Lose It. Last year there were more than 300 reported burglaries to vehicles in Naperville. You can see where any current incidents took place by checking out the Public Safety Incident Map.
