It was a “Mary” scary time when two best-selling children’s book authors came to town.

R.L. Stine, author of the “Goosebumps” series, and “Arthur” illustrator and author, Marc Brown, recently promoted their new book, “Mary McScary,” at Community Christian Church here in Naperville.

Stine wrote the picture book about a girl who loves to be scary, while Brown illustrated the frighteningly fun pages.

Brown drew scary portraits of fans, Stine told a ghost story, and the pair read the book to the audience, which was full of super fans of their work.

“I’m excited to see R.L. Stine and I’m pretty sure he’s going to talk about his new book “Mary McScary” I just read it in the car,” said “Goosebumps” super fan, Colin.

“Mary McScary” is intended for ages four to eight and is the second collaboration between Stine and Brown.

Tickets to the Anderson’s Bookshop event also included a copy of the book, which fans got signed after the discussion.
