Dogs and donuts greeted Meadow Glens Elementary students as they walked into school Friday.
The school partnered with the Naperville Area Humane Society to put on their first ever “Barkfest With Books”.
The humane society regularly brings service dogs to Meadow Glens to encourage kids to read and help relieve stress.
That inspired the school’s reading specialist to give back to the humane society. Students and their parents were encouraged to bring donations and the school also raffled off a reading chair made by the teachers.
“This is such a great event for our community,” said Meadow Glens Reading Specialist Christy Miller, who organized the event. “Reading together and spending time with these beautiful animals and learning the important lesson of truly being a contributor and helping others. So I was very excited to see what I saw today at Meadow Glens.”
The school wrapped up the event with a dog-themed song performed by the choir.
A doggone good time for all!
