Pencils, markers, notebooks – the cost of school supplies adds up. Thankfully families in DuPage County have a helping hand.
This year marked the 28th annual Back to School Fair held by Catholic Charities Diocese of Joliet.
The fair is a one-stop event, providing back to school needs for DuPage County families living on low-incomes.
“The goal of the back to school fair is to prepare families who are trying to get ready to return for school for a successful school year. The resources and agencies that are here are trying to help families offset costs related to back to school. As you know that can be quite costly,” said Pam Terrell, director of community services for Catholic Charities.
Each kid got a backpack filled with school supplies so they could be ready for their first day of class. The fair also offered a number of health and social services, including free vision screenings and haircuts.
The fair serves about 5,000 people every year.
