The District 203 Board of Education recently heard the school improvement plans for the 2018-2019 school year for each grade level.

Plans were established based on factors such as the past school year and benchmarks of success.

“A bit of it is also teacher judgment and school improvement planning members, sort of their sense of what’s reasonable, what’s likely, what’s ambitious without being outrageous, and what’s something really meaningful that we can get engagement towards making happen,” said Patrick Nolten, the Assistant Superintendent for Assessment and Accountability for District 203.

Academic goals in English language or literacy and mathematics were required for the plans.

One example: Kennedy Junior High is aiming for 90 percent of students to meet or exceed English language or literacy by 2019. For comparison, in 2016-2017 over 79 percent of students met or exceeded expectations in that subject.

Social emotional learning goals were also required for each school. These varied from Maplebrook Elementary’s goal to promote a safe and positive culture to Naperville Central’s hope to better student-staff respect by 13 percent.

Full improvement plans for all 21 schools in the district can be found on naperville203.org.
