Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico has announced that he will run for re-election in 2019.

The first-term mayor was elected in 2015, and during his tenure, the city has seen a reduction in debt and improved finances. Chirico has also advocated for improving the East Ogden Avenue corridor and balancing residential neighborhoods with businesses.

“But really my vision was what do we have to do to make sure that we have a robust, local economy in the future,” said Chirico. “How do we set this city up so it’s an attractive place to do business for the next generation of businesses?”

Chirico currently has more than $73,000 in his re-election fund, and has no official challengers at this time.

The consolidated general election will be on April 2, 2019.
