A bit of wind didn’t slow down the hundreds of students who ran the Naperville Kids Marathon this afternoon.
Naperville North High School’s stadium was packed with family, friends, and even mascots who cheered the athletes along every step of the way.
“I liked the mascots and how it didn’t matter who won or who lost,” said eight-year-old runner, Annabelle.
Over the summer, students were challenged to run one mile 25 times, and today they finished their final 1.2 miles.
So there was nothing compared to the feeling of crossing that finish line.
“It was like, ‘I finally got here!’ But also a lot of emotion, I was really happy,” said Andrea, a nine-year-old runner.
“Just the satisfaction of actually finishing was pretty cool,” said Blake, a ten-year-old runner.
The Naperville Kids Marathon kicks off the racing weekend before Sunday’s Naperville Half Marathon and 5K.
