The City of Naperville has received a special solar designation.
SolSmart Silver
The city was recognized with a SolSmart Silver Designation, for efforts in solar-best practices and solar power growth.
Some of those developments include the solar panels on the Municipal Center roof to power Jaycees Smart Park and panels on the Fort Hill Activity Center roof powering LED light fixtures.
There are also major plans for a solar panel site at the Springbrook Water Reclamation Center in Naperville.
“This will be about a one Megawatt hour system – land based,” said Mayor Steve Chirico. “That will provide enough power for about 145 homes. [It’s] a pretty sizable system [and] the largest in our area. It’s something to be really proud of.”
The award was given at a recent ceremony held at Argonne National Laboratory.
Notable Area
DuPage County received a SolSmart bronze designation for its efforts.
