A Naperville traveler became witness to a moment in history when a massive fire broke out today at one of the world’s most iconic cathedrals.
Notre Dame Fire
Naperville jewelry designer Sophia Forero was in Paris with her husband when the two caught sight of Notre Dame Cathedral in flames.
“Literally we walked, this walk we’ve done every single day since we came here, walked towards the Seine, and turned right towards Notre Dame, and like boom! It was all in flames. I’d never seen anything like that before,” said Forero. “The ashes started coming onto us; like I still have ashes in my hair.”
The two had just visited the 12th century cathedral the day before.
“We were in Notre Dame just yesterday. We walked through all through of Notre Dame yesterday. It’s so strange, it’s just so weird,” said Forero.
Aftermath of Notre Dame Fire
Forero shared the shock felt by all who were there to watch the scene unfold.
“There were French people standing there around us with their mouths open, were just like with tears in their eyes and it was just a sad sight to see,” said Forero.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. Notre Dame was under construction, and was surrounded by scaffolding.
