Kevin Oyakawa is a political science and economics double major set to graduate in 2019 from north central college.
Not content with just studying politics, he recently announced his run for a seat in District 5 of the DuPage County Board.
“This past year I was president of the North Central College Democrats and that empowered me to be a lot more involved locally and to learn about how local politics really affects change in the community,” said Oyakawa. “That’s something I grew very passionate about.”
He credits that the professors at north central as a source of empowerment, as learning about political science, media, and communication have given him skills necessary to run for office.
At the top of his platform is the opiate crisis. He’s concerned no one from his generation, which is most affected by the crisis, is involved in trying to solve the problem.
If elected in the fall 2018 election, Oyakawa will take the oath of office only a few months before he graduates.
