5K and One Mile Dash

Race-goers put their running shoes on and took off for the Rooted Acoustic Barn Raising 5K and One Mile Dash.

The race was put together to help raise money for the Greene Farm Barn, with all the proceeds going to the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.

“We love the barn, it’s a beautiful, beautiful 175-year-old barn. And it’s a beautiful feature on the landscape but we really want to get the barn open for public use,” said Rachel Jenness, co-organizer of Rooted Acoustic Barn Raising. “We partnered with the Village of Woodridge, we wrote a grant. The Village of Woodridge sponsored us heavily. And we came together to host this beautiful event.”

Kids Race

Around 150 people came out, but it wasn’t just adults who had a go. Kids also got the chance to show off their running skills.

Post-Race Fun

After the dash, participants enjoyed food, massages, and even yoga.

With a successful first run, the plan is to host a second dash next year.

“It’s just the spirit behind it, the people getting to know each other, the friendships and the relationships that are being formed. It’s just been fantastic,” said Jenness.
