Students in District 204 went back to the books to get a lesson in language around the world.
Whether it was Spanish, mandarin, or sign language Multicultural Reading Night got students into Still Middle School after hours.
It was all to promote diversity and get students to explore books and languages from ten different cultures.
“I think it’s extremely important that we get to learn about how other languages read and listen to the language so they can understand the difficulties that other people within our country have when they are trying to understand the English language. So we want to promote for students to become bilingual and that of course then adds for better opportunities for them in the future,” explained Rafael Segarra, the director for District 204’s English Language Learners program.
Every student left the event with a free book in a language of his or her choice. District 204’s Bilingual Parent Advisory Council and Parent Diversity Advisory Council put on the event.
This was the fourth year for the District 204’s Multicultural Reading Night.
