For this edition of 1 on 1 with Allie, presented by BMO Harris Bank, she learns the ins and outs of a high school badminton match with Naperville North and badminton player Taylor Zhou.
Naperville North Badminton Facts
In the last 5 years, the North badminton team has placed in the top 3 at IHSA state 5 times. In 2015, 2016,2017, and 2019 they got third and in 2018 they placed second. Back in 2012, under Bob Funston, the huskies took home the state title.
Last year, they had a state winner in Bhaavya Manikonda, who won the singles competition. Stephanie Liu and Taylor Zhou took home fourth place in the doubles competition as well which certainly helped the huskies finish third.
Coach Heather Shilds has been leading the girls since the 2015 season which means she has made the trip to state every year of her coaching career so far.
The 2020 badminton season kicks off with their first practices beginning the first week of March. The huskies then start competitions on March 16th.
