Lacrosse season is back, Benet Academy heads to Naperville North for the season opener for both teams. The Redwings edged the Huskies 10-9 in a high scoring affair when these teams met last season.
North with the early 1-0 lead but the Redwings quickly even the score as Kevin Lorenzl bounces his shot home to tie the game at one with 9 minutes to go in the first.
Later in the first and Jack Young comes from behind the net and fires a goal into the corner, North retakes the lead 2-1.
Benet looks to tie things up again late in the first quarter, but senior Jake Allgood makes the sprawling stop to keep his team in front.
End of the first period and sophomore Jacob Lubrant is the top returning scorer for a team that finished 4th at state last year, his second goal of the game puts the Huskies up 3 to 1.
Defense and goaltending was the story all night in this matchup as Benet goalie Connor Meagher drops to his knees to keep this shot out of the net, BA trails 3-1 at halftime.
Early in the 2nd half and Naperville North gets back on the board, Joey Sacco gets the pass from Jacob Lubrant and throws the sidearm bounce into the net for a 3 goal lead.
Benet trailing 4-1 but Benet responds early in the 4th quarter, Ethan Stonis gets the pass and scores to cut the deficit in half, Redwings alive and well with ten minutes to play, firing up the Benet student section braving the wind and cold.
But Naperville North was able to put the clamps on from there; Grant Pass drives in for the final goal of the game. The Huskies with a 5-2 win in a defensive battle to start their season on the right foot.
