First time we are seeing Waubonsie Valley in the post season. Sitting in the 2 seed, they travel to Tinley Park Regional to face off against 15th seeded Lincoln-Way East.
We jump right into the action in the second quarter, the Griffins Ryan Sierocki grabs the board and gets the putback… tight game in the 2nd with WV up by 1.
Moving right in to the third, the Warrior start really heating up. Junior Marcus Skeete plays hot potato with Darrien Porter, Skeete ends up with it, nails the three, WV up 29-22. Skeete with 23 points on the night.
Few plays later, and Skeete at it again, Griffins leave him alone… big mistake, drains the three, 32-24 now.
Lincoln-Way East’s defense still working though, Jullian Barr with the steal and the finish, cutting waubonsie’s lead to 7 at the end of the third.
Start of the fourth and here come the griffins, sophomore Tanner Vaundry hits the jumper with the foul attached to it. WV only with a 6 point lead.
The warriors telling the griffins to slow their roll.. Derien Porter picks up the lose ball and takes it all the way for the layup, WV up 10.
Under 5 minutes to play in the fourth, Lincoln-Way East still hanging on with Julian Barr getting the hand off and knocking in the three, trailing by 9.
Derrien Porter, with the nifty move to get the layup to go, as he finishes with 14 points on the night and the warriors grab a win, advancing to the regional finals against Plainfield North.
