Metea Valley Basketball has two new coach’s leading their programs. Coach Keith McIntosh, not a new head coach, but one with a lot of experience.
Keith: I got to the Illinois Math and Science Academy in 1987, the second year the school was open. I spent 30 years there. My first 4 years there I coached the sophomore boys and then my 4th year I moved in to the head coach of the girls varsity and I coached there all the way to 2016.
McIntosh retired in 2016 but then came back as an assistant coach last year for the mustangs only to be promoted once more to the head coach this season. On the boys side, Isaiah Davis is brand new to the head coaching position.
Davis: For me it was a dream come true. It’s always been a personal goal of mine to get a head coaching position. I was just fortunate enough that the administration here gave me the opportunity to lead a program.
Despite having different coaching backgrounds, both have high expectations for their players on and off the court.
Isaiah:First and foremost, our students are student athletes first and I make sure I drove that point home to get the job done in the classroom first. Secondly, we are here to mentor and guide these young men for that next step and I want them to leave here equipped with what they need to be successful whether it’s going to college, work the trades, military, whatever it is, I want these young men to leave here ready for those things.
Keith: My task, I believe, and what I am looking to do, really is to extablish Metea Valley basketball. I didn’t feel last year that our identity was there.
But don’t let those plans fool you, they both have plans to hit the court aggressively and make a name for the program.
Isaiah: We have a veteran group, a lot of senior, 3 guys returning starting and I feel that we have good depth. I think we are going to play hard, play with good tempo and good pace. Expect us to see us pushing the ball down the court and seeing if we can score in tradition.
Keith: expect us to see us play hard, we like to make our opponent early every point they get and we also like to be aggressive on offense.
And while one coach is new to the head position and one has more experience, both have high expectations for their new programs to reach success.
