Naperville Central girls golf welcomed Naperville North for the first head-to-head matchup of the season, with each team eager to return to the links after rain-soaked weather in recent weeks. The Huskies hung tough, but eventually the host Redhawks pulled away for the 185-212 victory.
High School sports are back for another year as crosstown rivals Naperville North and Central tee off for the DVC opener. Last season, it was the Redhawks taking the win by over twenty strokes. This highlight is sponsored by BMO.
To hole one, where Mia Kuruvilla gets off on the right swing. On her second shot, she places this ball right near the pin and then finishes with a birdie to start the round one under.
Alisa Shen gives Central an early boost with a shot from the fairway and onto the dance floor. Shen shoots a 44, the lowest score for the Redhawks.
Here’s Lia Elliott continuing the hole one excitement by displaying a good chip that bounces onto the green.
Central nails their spots on hole 4
Over to hole four, where Alexa Miller is back for her senior year and is nailing par-three tee shots like this. Miller finishes up the hole for par.
Freshman Ahanna Patel lines up for a long par, but she makes it look too easy because she puts enough beef on the putt that finds the bottom of the cup.
Staying with Patel on the seventh green as she sends a laser to the landing zone and golfs a 48.
Huskies get some help from Kylie Kiselyk with a long lag putt, which stops near the cup.
On the ninth green, Kuruvilla may be a bit off course but gets back on track with a favorable wedge that falls in excellent putting position. She ends her day off with a par and a round of 43.
Amara Iyengar hopes to finish her day on a high note. Her putt doesn’t quite find its home, but it takes an impressive roll, getting her close to the pin.
Redhawks put on strong finish
Now the Redhawks look to end the day strong. Leila Ishikawa’s third shot is a good one because she gets a great bounce that stops near the cup, and she finishes the round with a par.
Back to Miller, hoping to get in good putting position on her third attempt. She gets a lot of it on the chip, and this one is stops just shy of dropping in for birdie. Miller pars to end her day, and the Redhawks cruise to a 185-212 win over the Huskies.
