We have regional semi-final action in girls volleyball as eight-seeded Naperville North takes on the nine-seeded West Chicago Wildcats. The Huskies finished the season with a 20-15 record, and 7-3 in the DVC. This highlight is sponsored by BMO.
Close first set between Naperville North and West Chicago
To the action we go, as the Huskies would get things rolling early on. Paige Selman sets the ball for an easy kill shot to Liz Rossi, to give North a 4-2 lead.
The very next play Allison Higgs pops one up to Sydney Kushner as the one-two punch provides another point for the Huskies to make it 5-2.
West Chicago wouldn’t make things easier this first set. A few plays later Alyse Hoffman’s kill shot is blocked by Trinity Nelson and the ball bounces back to the Huskies side to cut the deficit to 8-5.
Naperville North would return the favor a few plays later. With the game now tied at eight, Taylor Frake goes up for the kill but Selman gets the block as the Huskies regain the lead, 9-8.
Selman’s big day would continue, as she sets another one up for Rossi who buries the kill past the Wildcat defense. North extends their lead to 15-13.
The Wildcats still remain in it, now down by five Jasmyn Trigueros pops it up to Nelson who sends it over and past the Huskies’ heads to make it 19-15.
Following some more scoring the Wildcats would be down by one until a contested ball is tipped by Anneta Pinkevich past Selman to tie the game up at 21.
Following a timeout, North would rally. Now up by one, Selman tips it up to Norris who sends the Wildcats flying off their feet, and past the ball to make it a two-point game.
On the next play, West Chicago’s Aidan Gerster goes for the kill, it’s initially blocked by Selman but Gerster keeps the play alive. She would get the ball back but her attempt is stuffed by the net to make it 24-21 for North.
The Huskies would wrap things up two plays later as Selman tips it up to Thompson who buries the dagger, to give North a 25-22 set one win over West Chicago
Huskies in full control during the second set
On the opening serve of the second set, Norris corrals the tip serve and Selman passes it back to her for the kill to give North the early 1-0 lead
Huskies are now up 5-0, and the Wildcats have a tough time receiving the serve from North, as Norris once again delivers the blow to make it a 6-0.
Norris continues to see plenty of action in the set, as a few plays later she sends it off the fingertips of a diving Wildcat. Huskies are cruising, up 16-8.
Cate Thompson would join in on the second set fun as she gets the quick pass from Selman and drills it into Wildcat territory to make it an 18-9 lead for the Huskies.
North looking to wrap things up as Maggie White’s kill is halted by Selman and Simi Kapustova to give the Huskies a 25-11 set two win as they sweep the match against West Chicago.
