After hanging tough in the first half, Waubonsie Valley was unable to keep up with the host Hinsdale Central Red Devils, who defeated the Warriors 27-10. This highlight is sponsored by BMO.

The Warriors look to improve from their 2-7 record last season. On the other sideline, after a 7-4 record, the Red Devils look to take the next step with a win on their Senior Night.

Hinsdale Central gets on the board first

The Hinsdale Central offense starts inside Warrior territory; Central’s Beau Gatewood finds receiver Beau Knapp over the middle to get the offense inside the red zone.

A few plays later, Hinsdale Central’s Mikey Menza caps off the drive with the tough run for six.

Later in the quarter, Red Devil kicker Orestas Bockus lines up for a 50-yard field goal. Bockus drills the ball through the uprights as the Red Devils lead 10-0 going into the second quarter.

Into the second, 3rd and long for the Warrior offense. Quarterback Nolan Alberson drops back to pass and connects with tight end Benjamin Seago for the big green and gold first down.

The Warrior offense stalls inside the red zone; Waubonsie calls on kicker Matthew Rodriguez with a 23-yard field goal attempt. The kick is on target as Hinsdale Central leads 10-3 with 6:15 remaining in the second.

Aaron Williams gives the Warriors a major spark

After a big stop on third down, the Warrior offense is pinned back against their own end zone. Warrior running back John Hung gives the offense some breathing room with a nice run on first down.

Later in the drive, Alberson steps up into the pocket and throws a laser to Aaron Williams, who races down the sideline for the 60-yard touchdown to tie the game! Going into the second half, the Warriors trail 13-10 after a field goal from Hinsdale Central.

Halfway through the third, the Red Devil offense gets things going with back-to-back big runs from Mikey Menza. Menza finishes off the drive with his second touchdown of the game to put the Red Devils back up by 10.

Waubonsie looks to respond to the Hinsdale Central touchdown. The offense reaches into their bag of tricks and dials up an Aaron Williams reverse for a big gain.

Nearing the end of the third, Warrior John Hung finds a gap and finishes off the tough run with a first down. Going into the fourth, the Warriors trail 20-10.

Red Devils take control in the second half

Three minutes into the fourth quarter, Red Devils Quarterback Beau Gatewood completes the pass to Mikey Menza to set up the offense in Warrior territory.

Moments later, Beau Gatewood drops back for the pass and throws a dime to receiver George Zilliox for the 24-yard touchdown.

Hinsdale Central starts its season with a 27-10 victory over Waubonsie Valley.
