North Central looking to bounce back after a loss the week prior, featuring some shuffling in the secondary. DeAngelo Roberson starts at corner, Braden Lindmark at safety.
Cardinals aiming for a win over 3-1 Augustana, a team they’ve beaten 13 years running.
Vikings hope a big senior class led by Zach Fuller can turn the tide.
But the Cardinals have their own senior signal caller, and he’s launching a rocket down field… and it comes down over the shoulder of Blake Williams… the junior down at the two.
North Central looking to open the game with a touchdown, and they do just that. Ethan Greenfield punches it in. Fourth rushing score of the season for the sophomore, NCC up 7-0.
Day just getting started for Greenfield… who starts the Cardinals second possession with a 14 yard stretch play, helping erase a false start penalty.
Eight plays later and on 4th and 13, the Cardinals will go for it at the 30 yard line… and jailbreak! Everyone goes deep and Rutter finds Andrew Kamienski for the touchdown. North Central leads 14-0.
Vikings attempting to answer. Fuller leans back and uncorks one down the sideline… and he finds Tom Dolis in the endzone for the score. Perfect throw and Augustana within 7 at the end of the first quarter.
But just minutes later, hope that the touchdown could shift the momentum was quickly erased, as Alek Jacobs can’t handle the low snap and the Vikings cough it up on the three yard line. Isaih Ziegler recovering.
North Central making Augustana pay. Greenfield pinballing his way to the goal line, and then carries a defender in with him. Two touchdowns already for Greenfield.
Still the second quarter and North Central driving again. Rutter goes with the play action seam route to Alex Rose and finds the tight end wide open over the middle.
Next play, similar design but the Vikings ready for it… they weren’t however ready for Rutter to pull it down and throw to Kamienski. And they definitely were’nt ready for Kamienski to take it to the end zone! Second score for Kamienski, as the junior breaks the all-time record for receptions in a career, passing Steve Hlavac with 181.
Checking back in on the Cardinal defense – and after the long touchdown pass, to sum it up. Stout. Bryan Beauchamp makes the stop in the backfield for a loss.
Winding down towards the end of the first half, North Central getting Zach Garrett a carry, and the man they call zippy takes it inside the 10 on a nice run
And to finish the drive, Rutter fakes the run on goes back to number 11. Third touchdown on the day for both Rutter and Kamienski – North Central up 35-7.
As for Augustana’s offense – unable to move the football. Tyler Rich comes up with the tackle for loss. Cardinals not allowing much on the afternoon.
And the offense, ends the day with a touchdown from Greenfield. North Central moves to 4-1 and gets Carroll on the road on Saturday.
