City Council Inauguration

Five Naperville councilmembers were sworn in over the weekend at the inauguration ceremony. Mayor Steve Chirico, Paul Hinterlong, and Patty Gustin took the oath of office as reelected officials, while Patrick Kelly and Theresa Sullivan will join the dais as first-time councilmembers. The new council’s first meeting will be held tomorrow night at 7 p.m.

HSS Teacher Appreciation Week

The Naperville-Aurora chapter of Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh celebrated the start of teacher appreciation week in a unique way called Guru Vandana. Twenty-eight teachers from area schools attended the event at Eola Community Center, along with three District 204 board members. The event also included exhibitions on Indian culture and music performed by area students.

Wonderful World of Wheels

Trucks, fire engines, and tractors filled the Whole Foods parking lot on 75th Street today. The Naperville Park District’s Wonderful World of Wheels gave preschoolers the chance to get hands on with the vehicles for the 21st straight year. The event is designed to familiarize children with emergency services and other vehicles they might see around town.

Gymnastics

Congratulations to our local gymnastics state qualifiers from the sectional meet at Glenbrook North this weekend. Naperville North Senior Michael Hunter Jr. qualified in vault by finishing third along with Metea Valley freshman Zach Taylor who took fourth. Waubonsie Valley freshman Nagasai Nitta qualified on the high bar and Neuqua Valley freshman Tyler Clark qualified in the parallel bars. But it was Neuqua sophomore Michael Baren who was the standout, taking third place in the All-Around after finishing in first in the vault and the floor exercise.
